Naomi Pinnock New Work (World Premiere)
James Clarke Untitled No.9 (BBC Commission, World Premiere)
The BBC SSO takes to the stage for two World Premieres conducted by Ilan Volkov. Naomi Pinnock’s new work explores the dynamics of intimacy and space within the orchestra, referencing Agnes Martin’s set of twelve paintings, The Islands, painted in 1979, the year of the composer’s birth. Meanwhile, artist and composer James Clarke’s Untitled No.9 continues his belief that music (and visual art) makes a statement on its own terms, avoiding words descriptions and titles as much as possible.
